Empowering Lives: The Transformative Journey of Chhattisgarh Help Welfare Society”

In June 2017, Chhattisgarh Help Welfare Society (CGHWS), a non-governmental voluntary organisation, was established with a noble vision. Registered under the Chhattisgarh Society Registration Act 1973 (No. C.G.6701) and holding registrations under 12A & 80G, CGHWS embarked on a mission to uplift the tribal-majority area of Korba district.

Focused on empowering individuals and institutions to claim their rightful shares in all aspects of human existence, CGHWS adopted a comprehensive, long-term strategy for community emancipation. This strategy involved targeted interventions at three crucial levels: the child, the family, and the community, with special emphasis on vulnerable groups like girl children, rural dropouts, disabled children, and the destitute.

In this story, CGHWS volunteer Prabhjot Kaur has shared the service work done by the CGHWS organisation during her life. Bolstered by a seasoned team, CGHWS successfully implemented livelihood programs, facilitated the formation of youth groups, promoted community-based organisation, and played a pivotal role in advancing Panchayati Raj. Health awareness initiatives, health camps, blood donation drives, and food distribution programs were conducted to address malnutrition and health concerns within the community.

The organization also spearheaded initiatives to promote education by establishing schools for continuing schooling, running shelters for the destitute, and providing hostel facilities for tribal boys. Special attention was given to the upliftment of specially-abled individuals, treatment of animals, and creating a conducive environment for both.

In line with its commitment to social causes, CGHWS actively mobilised the community for transformative changes in education, women's rights, health, MGNREGA, and the establishment of village-level institutions and Community-Based Organisations.

One remarkable facet of CGHWS success story is the operation of "Apna Ghar Sewa Ashram," a shelter home inaugurated in July 2019. Here, the organization extends homage, hope, and happiness to the homeless, destitute, helpless, and abandoned individuals, particularly those found in critical conditions at railway stations, bus stands, and other public places. Aptly referred to as 'Prabhujans,' these individuals receive care, nourishment, and medical attention, preventing their conditions from deteriorating towards a lingering and painful demise.

Currently hosting 63 inmates (Prabhujans) in Korba city, CGHWS, through its relentless efforts, stands as a beacon of compassion and positive change in the community.
